“… I wanted the camera they all had, the knowledge they all shared, and most of all to shoot the way they all shoot.”
First and foremost, I KNEW I had to get my hands on that hunky Canon 5D Mark II they all use. So what did I do?! I stalked every one of those websites that sold it in hopes of eventually sealing a great deal. The Guju inside me wouldn’t let me make that kind of purchase without doing my legwork ;) Little did I know this baby doesn’t ever go on sale!! I came to realize there wasn’t anything remotely close to a ‘deal’ unless I opted for a slightly higher priced Bundle, in which I’d reluctantly get stuck with a boat load of non-essentials such as a knock off camera bag, a low-end compact flash card, an after market extra battery, and a useless UV filter. Ummm, thanks but no thanks? So after much due diligence, I settled with the fact that this new endeavor will undoubtedly put a dent in my pretty little red wallet. As I’ve come to learn, the 5D is apparently the most purchased high-end professional camera due to it’s Full Frame Sensor. And of course I absolutely had to have the best one right off the bat. I think I promised Manish I’d give up my next birthday present, christmas present, and probably anything else until the summer solstice of 2012. Oh jeez, this camera better be worth it!! But it did prompt me to think, maybe Manish was right? Maybe I should’ve settled for a consumer grade camera until my wheels were churning, and then upgraded to the higher end one later? But when it came down to decision time, we collectively couldn’t justify making 2 investments even if it was later down the line. So if we were gonna do this, we were gonna do it right, right from the beginning, and refuse to look back with regret. He’s the BEST, isn’t he?!?! That’s why I LOVE him!! Sooo… Yup!! You guessed it! You’re now reading the blog of a super proud owner of the Canon 5D Mark II!
But wait! Before we all celebrate, there’s more… you couldn’t possibly think the camera came with it’s own lens kit did you?? Nope! Now why would Canon do such a silly thing?? The lenses are where they REALLY get you! So after justifying no gifts for 2 Birthdays, 56 Valentines Days, 83 Christmas’ and a partridge in a pear tree, we concluded on purchasing 2 of the bare essential lenses to get me started; EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM and the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM.
Now if I can only have “the knowledge they all share and shoot the way they all shoot,” I’m golden!
